Jeez,I remember where I was when I learned about this, and how the next record wasn't quite as good. Digging in deep to being a drummer then, but still VC was out of reach.
Those SNL appearances were amazing.

Re: Official Virgil Donati thread
Funny enough, I hear some Billy and Mickey from the Dead in there. If you laid that underneath a blazing Lazy Lightning it might sound appropriate.
A card with a transcription of the base groove would be helpful rather than his explanation.

Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread
Seriously, I heard his name and thought he was R&B or something. I pay so little attention to all that. Musician friends told me I would like the music. But, pleasantly surprised the music has got some drumstuff going on in it. No double strokes so right up my alley. :) There is an I'd Hit That ...

I got a gig playing with a Keith Urban tribute. Didn't know who he was, but this should be a fun gig.
The audience is quite different than a Pink Floyd tribute gig.
Solid drumming.

Re: 2023 Chatty!
Wertico didn't use the bass drum all the much, and when he did, it was low in the mix and more felt than heard. There's something to that. Came across this today, Ron Tutt, Elvis' and Neil Diamond's guy, and many others, live with Jerry Garcia. He had a real nice groove and threw some tasty morsels ...

Re: 2023 Chatty!
Nice playing if a bit too fast for the other musicians on stage.
But Neil was guilty of that too sometimes.
This is a new boot from 1976. Nice sound, Neil playing crisply.

That one left me speechless, wow. All those concepts that were in his toolbox were there, and some speed with clarity and cleanness. I gotta dig into that one. Thanks for posting,

Re: 2023 Chatty!
I remember seeing Sonny in Remo (I think) ads back in the day but had no idea who this cat was who was sharing clinic stages with the heavy hitters. Couldn't find much about him at all, thought that was weird. Heard him on a Lee Ritenour live show. Here's another that doesn't get much pub. So much f...

Whenever I watch Keith I am drawn to how his arms move. Really interesting to watch.
