Re: Steve Smith

Steve Smith to me is always playing music that showcase his drumming, not a good thing if you ask me... Fortunately there is some good stuffs he did like the live with Steps, but here, it's like a good student who did his homework, nothing magical and spontaneous, lick one, lick two, and so on... P...

[youtube_https:2xyivshs]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd6SgbbWV6Q[/youtube_https:2xyivshs] Nice tune, with a very creative, polyrhythmic solo by Mike Cortese. This album is great, by the way, with Dennis Chambers and Zach Danziger on drums too. What happened to Mike Cortese? Search for his discogr...

Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread

Brother to Brother (both the album and the song) are very special to me. Easily one of my favorite records/songs of all time. I took a lesson with Mark Craney back in the mid-80s and asked him about that tune, and the fills he played. I showed him what I thought they were, and then he demonstrated ...

Re: Steve Smith

I used to listen to Focus' "Moving Waves" trying to figure out Pierre van der Linden fills. I met him in person in 2005, when my band opened for Focus, an unforgettable day :P That must have been a treat! Did you speak to him at all? What setup was he using at the time? I just love his pl...

Re: Steve Smith

I was really into Focus back in the day, and I had that record too. Pierre van der Linden was great and one of my favorite drummers. Me too, Paul! I used to listen to Focus' "Moving Waves" trying to figure out Pierre van der Linden fills. I met him in person in 2005, when my band opened f...

Re: Steve Smith

Nobody (including Steve Smith himself :D) speaks about his album with Dutch band Focus, but I love his drumming on it. I'm a big fan of SS in his early days, a way more creative, powerful and unpredictable, imo. [youtube_https:11aizpv7]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKUsbFdshk8[/youtube_https:11aiz...

Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread

Yes Navega you know your shit brother !!! Jean-Phi was indeed Sakesho's drummer, and yes I did several gigs with Sixun, subbing for that genius named Paco Séry. Awesome, Rodge!!! :) I'm a big fan of Sixun and French fusion in general!! Some brilliant Paco: [youtube_https:1qwfkq9y]https://www.youtub...
