Re: Looking For a Mentor

My advise- from being in a similar experiences (sans the finger thing) would be to a) stop looking for the "fusion crowd". Yes... it's LA. There's lots of fusion going on, but at a very pro level with some very pro players (not at all trying to suggest that you aren't or won't ever be tha...

Re: Looking For a Mentor

I suggest learn music. That's where most drummers get their ideas from---not necessarily other drummers. Learn songs, learn a lot of them, and play onstage with live musicians, they play better than most dead ones. you've been doing it long enough. Take some time and really study tunes.

Re: Mark G - what the heck is going on?

It sounds like he is messing up the song. It's an anti-musical drum part to make people forget who is singing in the band. The way the song was going, a simple rock beat would have worked. In your opinion. And I highly doubt your opinion is accurate to interpreting the intention behind the part in ...

Re: DOUBLE BASSDRUM PEDAL to HIHAT FOOT TRANSFERENCE

As far as the DW being smooth with new bearings, sure, but the pedal board is too short and heel hinge is too high. I prefer longboard pedals. Axis AL are nice, but the Demon Drive is the best I've played. Old Yamahas had a nice feel for a chain pedal. And believe it or not, the flying dragon pedals...

Re: Joe Morello passes away

I did an afternoon with him maybe 20 years ago. Awesome. He showed me some things that to this day remain a part of me. Just some paradiddle things, buzz a diddles, ruff a diddles. All things that coulod be applied numerous ways. He also played the bass drum with his hand a foot---way cool. It was a...

Re: DOUBLE BASSDRUM PEDAL to HIHAT FOOT TRANSFERENCE

Just get one. Many well accomplished players use a double pedal. There are many fun things you can do with it. You can play really cool linear fills, have exciting endings on songs, play drags and ruff grace notes with your feet. Plus, if you have to do drum solo, a nice medium tempo chuggah chuggah...

Joe Morello's methods come from Stick Control. He showed me many things, just like Alan Dawson with Syncopation.

Re: Anyone know anything about Smith Custom Drums?

I was talking to a guy at NAMM a while back and he said that he sold a kit of their's in the 30,000+ dollar range. No joke. Like 50-80 layers of laquer and stuff. I don't remember the exact price, but it was possibly even more.
