Re: Official Virgil Donati thread
Agreed...first, cat is FIFTY SEVEN...that in itself is SICK...this isn't playing a soft ride pattern at a garden party type gig...this is Mount Olympus athletic drumming. His connection with this bass player and the simplicity of three players...Virg can work this for a long time. I'd LOVE to see hi...

Re: SIMON PHILLIPS - The thread about Simon
Simon has an instantly identifiable style and sound...which is probably the greatest compliment. Funny about music and artists...that Duncan Browne might as well have been a Dire Straits record (talk about influence)...the Anderson solo record was in line with the Simon today up to Protocol. His sna...

Re: Dan Weiss
A perfect example of out of box intelligence not directly measured in the school system! He made a context for that inner voice to combat the drummer's tapping that annoys most people, especially in a business or staff meeting. This is a guy I'd like to hang with... --as a kid, he nailed the beat of...

Re: Jack Pollit
What I really liked Darren is how each drummer plays in their own ergonomic style...what is relaxed for him is not for another, especially related to the cross over hat stroke (arm angle, spacial relation to the hats) This is very precise drumming and for me, the first thing I thought of was how muc...

Re: DAVE WECKL - The thread about Dave
More of a Dave story here. Tonight I went to see the Northridge University jazz "A" band at the new facility on campus here in So Cal. Pete Christlieb was one of the guests... former Tonight Show sax player and known for his Deacon Blues solo off Aja. The drum sound was very good and the s...

Re: The WHY?!? snare thread.
House Drum is fine...I guess, but lesson learned. Did an outdoor gig plating covers for a festival and snare head split. That was fun...trying tuning a small tom in the middle of Runnin' on Empty to make it sound like a "snare"...than looking for any kid in the audience that lives close by...
