Re: Steve Smith Back in Journey
Looking at his documentary was cool - he's such a consummate professional. I'm happy he got this opportunity to go back out with them. With the shape he's in, and how he takes care of himself, I'll bet he's playing into his 70's or 80's..... another Roy Haynes. He played a gig with George Brooks and...

Re: The Peter Erskine Thread
His book, "No Beethoven" is a great read - talks about his time starting at Interlochen, then Stan Kenton, Maynard, Weather Report (with good Jaco and Zawinul stories), Steely Dan, Diana Krall, etc..... He's definitely one of my favorites. I have a recording of him playing Jose, with the D...

Re: Steve Smith Back in Journey
Steve sounds great.... probably the most relaxed rock drum solo ever performed. Very cool... "Machine Gun Smith"... I love it.... he probably hasn't been called that since '86 Also noticed..... 1st night of the tour, and I noticed that Arnel had some difficulty hitting the high notes on Fa...

Love it! Very cool to see Peter letting it hang out in that setting.
I had heard that Peter Graves was hugely protective of all of the Word of Mouth Band charts, however. I wonder if he still has control of the catalog....

Re: Carlock moves to Grestch
Jeez, Luke's voice is rough on Rosanna.......... It feels like Keith is ahead of the beat, while Simon settles in more, especially on the intro to "Stop Loving You". Agreed with the solo..... just more of the same thing..... would have come off better over hits, in the context of the song,...

I see Stewart Copeland live and jam and I think, "OK...ummm, OK" but on Police records he is money...vinyl perfection for me. I think the very same thing everytime I hear him play live. I think one of his most sublime recordings is "One World" off of Ghost In The Machine...........
