Re: Gary Novak
Paint the World, Time Warp, (Chick) and Another Standard (Bob Berg) are my favorites to listen to when it comes to Gary Novak. There's a lot of pretty phenomenal playing and musicianship on those records. Was looking at Novak's AllMusic credits... he has a bass credit on Weckl's Heads Up record--? S...

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta
The one I meant is at 4:22, same link. It's a different fill too, though. I just remembered it as being one of the few things I liked about that record... it's not Tom Scott's best work.

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta
Kurtis...not sure the date of that video (assuming you meant the above vid) but VC does a fill very similar fill on a Tom Scott's Desire LP. Not sure the exact tune, but my drum teacher at the time got a woody playing it over and over for me (lift record needle, repeat). I know that fill! It's on t...

Re: I'd Hit That podcast interview series
The thing I miss about Dave from IHT is he understood that a good interview is a conversation and was really good at keeping the interviews that way, so they tended to reveal a lot more about the guest's personality and perspective on things. He didn't have an agenda other than to get to know the gu...

Re: I'd Hit That podcast interview series
Since IHT seems to be off-air nowadays, is anyone checking out the Drummer's Resource Podcast? It can get a little cornball in places, and it often makes me miss Dave from IHT's underrated skill as an interviewer... but Nick has had some really killer names on in the past few months and the intervie...

Re: Maple drumsticks?
I switched to the SD4 about four years ago now. Maple is significantly lighter than hickory, and as you've pointed out, has a very unique articulation on cymbals. The lighter weight is a little different to manipulate I'd say for some players who play almost strictly with rebound all the time. I pre...

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta
To me Vinnie's family life is a topic probably best left to him and those he feels comfortable discussing it with. $0.02

Re: Home recording.
Interface: This is where opinions are wanted. (But offcourse also about the little Mac if it seems uncapable.) I know I want at least 8 inputs. I know I can go really cheap, but it would be nice for things to be generally passable long term. I've looked around at several models and so far the Focus...

Re: Home recording.
I would highly recommend educating yourself quite a bit before jumping into something like this, especially if you're not experienced at all with DAW software. I jumped in without knowing what the hell I was doing and wasted a lot of time and money. What kind of recordings you're aiming to make is g...

Re: Way to stop people film live gigs?
Apple patents a lot of stuff it never really uses, so it doesn't necessarily mean it's technology we'll see in the near term, but it's definitely interesting. In the context of preventing illegal or unauthorized filming of concerts, etc. it seems like a great idea (to me at least) but it doesn't tak...
