Re: While purusing Youtube....
Every once in a while, I'll go from one video to the next on youtube. Seems like anybody and everybody is there. So I decided to try and find anything posted from an old friend named Dave Karasony, and this is what I found. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gJgwihRuf4&feature=related It helps tha...

Re: Weckl can't groove? Really?
Some people honestly don't like Weckl's playing. Part of the issue is that much of the music he plays could be called "musician's music", for lack of a better term. I also think Weckl's got a reputation, deserved or not, of being an "overly technical" player sometimes. People wil...

Musical individuality: some questions to ponder....
At what point does emulation/imitation stop and an individual's own unique musical voice begin? Is there a lot of overlap? Example: Vinnie Colaiuta was influenced by Tony Williams and Steve Gadd. So was Dave Weckl. Yet clearly, they have taken pretty different paths from what were many of the same i...

My favorite Weckl solo (PASIC 2007)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LW488r9hMUQ Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sxfy-LrfxrA Part 2. Something about this particular solo speaks to me...Dave's touch, dynamics, and phrasing are out of this world here. He has a few moments where he cuts loose with chops, but they are used sparingly ...

Re: Grp Super Live In Japan 87
Thank you for posting this. It's funny to see how the CCEB had these little moves back in that day on stage, I would suppose, in an effort to engage the audience. Some of that was much more ridiculous in other places, but, I'm glad that they don't do that anymore. I wish I could find the old interv...

Re: Bruner with Holdsworth (Dan Quayle Edition)
I'm glad Bruner got the Holdsworth gig. That guy is one of the most brilliant electric guitarists on the planet. And the people who have drummed for him, of course, are all incredible.
