Re: Assorted videos / YouTube thread

When Gadd goes to the ride, his foot is not on the hi-hat. He goes to his second bass drum pedal for added power. Both beaters are playing the same thing. He probably has a natural slight flam to thicken the attack.

Re: Mr. Gadd

Charles Mingus featuring drummers Joe Chambers, Dannie Richmond & Steve Gadd. Check out starting @ 22:32 It's interesting Gadd's sound changed from an open Gretsch "jazz tone" in the early 70s to a muted "walled on the snare" mid 70s sound so that he could work a lot with dif...

BTW: the CD sounds so much better than these YouTube audio files. https://youtu.be/FDuNw1mre-I Omar has it all, especially in dynamics,...

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta

Vinnie's taking the Gestalt approach to analysis by looking at the whole. I think he is throwing out questions or ideas of things he has had to deal with, and/or things he has thought about in terms of being who we are as individuals. "Where ever you go, there you are". "You can't esc...

Re: Steve Smith Back in Journey

Ha ! I saw Steve's Band in Boston around this time (circa 1989-90). Steve was on fire during this time with a Weckl set-up (left hand floor tom) with Vinnie's power. Here is another video around the same time (perhaps the same gig ?). Jan Hammer sitting in. Steve's solo starts @ 9:15. https://youtu....

Re: Chad Wackerman

Chad's rhythmic phrasing seems to have been influenced by (among other sources) 20th-21st century classical composition. I wonder what some of his favorite percussion scores are and which compositions he has drawn from ?
