Re: Vinnie to play on Joe Satriani's new album...
I think Satriani "reels in" his musicians a little too much...everything is really controlled and I believe it affects his music in a bad way. The music sounds sterile to me. There are a few exceptions, but that's how I feel about JS for the most part. Of course, would love to hear Vinnie ...

Re: Cindy on Dennis's drums....
I thought she sounded great. She sounded like Cindy, not Dennis. I guess if they wanted someone to sound like Dennis up there, they would have just had Dennis keep playing, huh? I would say our drums are personalized to our own playing, so playing someone else's kit isn't going to be a perfect match...

Re: MP's rage outburst on stage.
Ok, so I've have never really had someone set up my drums for a gig, let alone traveled abroad for a gig...but it's really fucking hard to understand why you would conduct yourself like that. Sure I may be irratated on the inside somewhat, but to throw my gear...WHILE they are trying to fix the prob...

Re: VC on the cover of next month MD.
I'm sure somebody has said it, but sound is subjective. I mean, somebody must like the sound of DW's, the company does pretty well. I view thier sound as kinda thuddy, short sustain, lower timbre and in some cases have a weird overtone to them. It always seems they choke out when tuned up higher. So...

Re: We are very lucky...
No matter what gig I go to, I have that "lusty" feeling before the gig/during set-up etc. I dunno, I just love playing so much. No, I don't always have a gig like you did they other night, but when that does happen, it's fantastic. I feel bad for the guys that don't enjoy playing...they ar...

Re: Anyone ever heard of this recording technique?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZ5bS3_BCDs It's not a funk groove, but a groove nonetheless. I would say this particular song and the album did pretty good and got the point across with the music. All the cymbals were recorded separately and I believe the drum fills, but I'm not positive on that on...

Re: Official Virgil Donati thread
Oh wow, right from the horses mouth! That ride sounds great...of course, Sabian doesn't have a 21" Artisan Light ride in their catolog at the time I'm writing this...but I'm sure when your name is Virgil Donati, you can get these things..lol I have the 22" Artisan Medium Ride and I love it...

Re: Emulation vs individuality
I disagree slightly that we all have the same influences. We are an amalgamation of not only our drumming influences, but our musical influences, lifes influences etc etc. It is these differences that make us who we are as individual drummers. There are way too many variables to make us sound the sa...
