Re: A Vinnie solo I hadn't heard before
This clip is from the last track of the Los Lobotomys CD "Live at the complex" recorded in 89, I've had this since it was released and it is the bollocks! Jeff, Vinnie, Carlos, Lenny Castro, Lukather and Garfield, big grooves from Jeff and Vinnie melts your face off on 2 tracks.... a must ...

Re: Gregg Bissonette debuting Mapex Velvetone Black Panthers
I saw Steve White in clinic a couple of months back and his velvetone or similar was tuned so badly, like he didn't care, his whole kit was a bit crap, but the guy in support who did the first half hour (his first clinic too!) had a great sound using Mapex, just goes to show that we all have differe...

Re: Tama drum throne
I have the Tama 4 leg with the backrest too, it's great, no wobbles and I'm on my second nylon bush and bolt, not coz the old ones wore out badly, but after 6 years of twice weekly use it was a good idea to get new ones and keep the old ones in my stick bag as spares..... best seat I ever had, I use...

Re: VC with Kimo Williams
I have both and the live one is as even better, War Stories by Kimo Williams is also a great album, these are in my desert island list.... The woody snare sound is mine now, took me ages to find the right snare and hoop combi, Weckl maple and Yamaha maple hoop gets as close as possible for my money.

Re: To rimshot or not to rimshot?
Rimshot as default but changeable. I have been enjoying the tone of my snares more lately due to a decrease in volume by the rest of the band. Gentle rimshots now work well! I have a lovely Ludwig brass 5" millennium snare that has a bell like tone in the rimshot that I really love. Steve ferro...
