Re: GROOVES - Vinnie first...
Rodge got me thinking of this groove that I love (Richie Hayward): [youtube_https:1yq5u8g3]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK_hftXn4dk[/youtube_https:1yq5u8g3] A Steve Ferrone session date with Freddie King turned out this great groove: [youtube_https:1yq5u8g3]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6guiBe...

Re: DAVE WECKL - The thread about Dave
Agree on all points with Kurtis... with Oz, his mastery of form is especially highlighted I think because those Oz vamps tend to have such huge peaks and valleys. So much discipline going on with Weckl's solos in the form, but you can really hear it with Oz. When you consider how much headroom Weckl...

Re: Where is the line between "modern" and "vintage" kits?
Most of the stuff I've read (I was born in '79) points to Steve Gadd as the transition point to smaller drums (10-16 toms, two up/two down) becoming popular. I'm sure there were all sorts of guys experimenting with similar stuff prior and during, but Gadd and the RC were definitely a milestone, and ...

Re: kerope
I have 22" and 20" rides, and the 14" hats. I'd have to say they sound as advertised; "the most authentic vintage K recreation to date." I'm not saying they'll end someone's search for the holy grail vintage K or Con ride, but if you're looking for something consistently mad...

Re: Essential Jim Keltner?
If I remember right, I think Keltner played double drums with Joachim Cooder on record called Mambo Sinuendo by Ry Cooder and Manuel Galban. I used to listen to that record all day during one summer a few years back and it kind of became a soundtrack to lazy summer days for my wife and I. You're not...

Re: VINNIE - Vintage videos. Ok...or no vintage.
I also like the cymbals... did Vinnie relax his stance on being recorded live or are these part of a legit video shoot for the gig (he had to have OK'd a camera above him, right)? Either way, really great footage and of course burning playing from the Man. Also, what a band! Damn.

Re: DAVE WECKL - The thread about Dave
Anyone receive the behind the scenes bluray from the Weckl/Oliver project? There's some really good footage on there. I've ordered the Bluray, I'm excited to watch it. Mine came in the mail about a couple of weeks ago or so, finally got around to checking it out this weekend. Some cool playing foot...

Re: How developed as a player/musician were you at 22?
Kojo's uncle is Wallace Roney ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallace_Roney ), and his Dad, Antoine, is a very formidable tenor player that has a few records as a leader and has worked with some of the finest in jazz. Clearly he has the gift, but when you come up with that kind of musicianship aro...
