Re: Guitar Center Drum-Off 2011 Champion

I liked it too. Quite a bit actually, because as Manu said, it was fun. I do agree also, that the foot cowbell stuff was probably the weakest part of the whole thing. But I really liked the Roland stuff (and seeing more and more cats incorporate electronics into their playing and setups in creative ...

Re: Jeff Porcaro....

The man was VERY busy from '75-'82...in fact as I understand it, when TOTO won their Grammys for TOTO IV...that same year, the boys also played on 22 other Grammy nominated recordings. Imagine being an artist at the Grammys and seeing TOTO win saying... "Oh yeah...they played on my record too!...

Re: Ndugu Ride

I switched to an all 2002 setup and love it, they fit in with guitars in a really pleasing way. The cymbals have held up very well under a lot of pretty hard hits. You can't base fragility on the old 404 line. :o) Well, those RUDES were fragile POSes...and they sounded like cast iron. FWIW, it seem...

"Full Moon" by Dougal Butler. Hilarious accounts of Keith Moon by his personal assistant (Dougal Butler) of ten years. It's a shame it's out of print, but it's worth tracking down on Ebay or Amazon. Every now and then some nutbag is selling a copy for 300 bucks, but hold out...you can fin...

Re: Practicing outdoors anyone?

When the weather is warm, I actually do this quite often! I bring the pad out to the back yard with metronome and coffee in hand, and it's incredibly relaxing for me. Not as much this time of year, since it's quite cold this time of the year in Providence, RI (30 degrees F as we speak, which isn't t...

Owned indeed. And yes, the Empyrean drum is a true work of art. One of those just might be a gift to myself in 2012. We shall see!

Re: GAVIN HARRISON - VF signature sticks video

Gavin, your playing always absolutely astounds me. Between you and Todd Sucherman, I turn so many folks onto your playing. Tremendous stuff. I'll have to check out the sig stick, as I do use a bigger drumstick these days. VERY cool stuff.

Re: OT: Number of professional musicians in the US

And far fewer of those, I'm guessing, are able to support themselves solely by their musical endeavors. I am, because I have no girlfriend/wife to support (or kids) and I share half a living room, and I have no life other then drumming. My favorite thing is being able to wake up, make coffee and a ...
