Re: DW Acquires Slingerland

Anybody else remember those mid-1990s/Nashville-era Slingerlands? I haven't owned one, but one of the best drum kits I've ever heard was a set of Slings from that era. A drummer named Leif Bondarenko in Birmingham has one, and I've heard it in multiple venues. Always spectacular (Leif is also a gre...

Re: Jojo Mayer

There are few people in the music industry that I enjoy listening to in interviews as much as Jojo. He’s very confident and comfortable with himself, and has thought a lot of seemingly complex issues through to simple and straightforward answers. Unrelated: No doubt it’s travel, but a little sleep c...

Re: Hardware cases

The SKB mid size hardware case has been working well for me for 8+ years. 179-199 depending on where you look.

Juan I really enjoyed these. Great questions that get to the heart of creativity and true musicianship. Looking forward to more!

Re: Instagram Drummers

TL;DR- Choose your information diet based upon your desired output, goals, or “purpose”. I’ve thought a lot about this subject over the past few years, and listened to a lot of discussion about the impact of social media on the overall creative output and intellectual capacity of society at large (N...

Re: So, racks. (DW, Gibraltar.)

I have the Gibraltar rack at home with DW booms and a couple stands to augment, kind of like Weckl does. It was ~$100 savings over the DW rack. Rarely on a gig would it be practical to drag all that out unless I a) needed a big kit for the music (often not the case) and b) had the load in time to me...

Re: I AM DRUMMER

Hi Richie, My only criticism would be that the reverb makes it difficult to hear the total tone on the drums. There is significant air on the attack that interferes with the resonant tone of the drums. On a track or something this might not be an issue, maybe even a desired effect, but if you’re rev...

Re: Up tempo comping

John Riley’s bop books are probably the best if you’re looking for books, so you’re in the right place. His video The Master Drummer and its accompanied pdf material are very good too. This is all assuming a good teacher with a lot of bop experience isn’t available... that’s the most ideal IMO. In m...

Re: DAVE WECKL - The thread about Dave

Full TV concert from this trio. Spain 2018. [youtube_https:21tg2zrh]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-gA2pYa_N4[/youtube_https:21tg2zrh] Of all the music Weckl does, this is by far my favorite setting to hear him in. Chick brings out the absolute best in the musicians he chooses to work with, but t...
