Simon's technique makes the most sense to me if you want to have freedom on the kit. Being able to play open like that would be so liberating. It's interesting that just looking at videos of drumming that certain drummers "look" more interesting to watch. I don't always have access to the headphones when watching videos on the internet (since I mostly read), but I think a lot of the new drummers look really cramped when playing. ...

Yep, definitely Chambers. He played the same thing over odd time vamps with John McLaughlin and Joey DeFrancesco when I saw them in the early 90s. I think he is just goofin. He was playing so far around the vamp that I think he was foolin. I don't think he likes to play the quantized way some drumme...

I think this a great example where matched grip is the only way to get this ferociousness on the drums with Gary's flurries. The fulcrum would eventually give out with trad. grip. Though, Virgil D's fulcrum is pretty sound but over time would give out in this type of abandonment type playing. There ...
