Re: Official Virgil Donati thread
I sort of agree with the DW drum sound commments, however there is a notable exception for me, which is the Michael Landau - Live 2000 album with Toss Panos on it. May be many factors that contribute to the sound, not the least of which is Toss and how it was recorded, but it's obviously possible to...

Re: VINNIE - Vintage videos...OK or not vintage.
Anyone know the specs on this New kit. Looks like the 10" might be deeper than his old prefered 7".
Suspension mounts seem to be gone as well.

I think he plays well. Not a fan of the solo, but that sort of goes for Keiths solos in general. Not very musical to me. Just natural to show off the new guy a little bit, though.
A little bit of personell change in Toto is just normal. Luke is the only cat who's been on every gig anyway.

Re: Improving quality of in-ear monitoring
Direct guitar will only sound decent if you have a good speaker sim. With guitar players that use modeling it should work ok, though. You have to be last in the chain. If possible and you have a free channel anyway, you could put your own 57 on the cab.

Re: Best drum head brand for retaining tone
Remo all the way. Only issue is the durability if their coating. Ambassadors have that midrange that makes them cut through other instruments in just the right way. It's sort of like certain classic guitar pedals. People start messing with them and updating to make them sound a certain way by themse...

Re: What separates the truly great from the merely skilled?
In addition to good facility and you have to have your own voice and get in to what you feel is the essence of the music. You can focus on, add to the art and make it work while being yourself. Then you are a great musician regardless of fame or how it fits with the taste of others. What holds peopl...

Looks like a 3-4" DW.
