Re: Practice Pad = no Pad Hands
I often put a dish towel over my real feel to take the "artificial" rubber rebound out of the equation. How much you need to double it up is easily determined by letting the stick rebound on your snare drum by just dropping it, and trying to match that with the pad & towel. I double mi...

Didn't see it. So, consider this my apology for apologizing. Almost 10 pages!

Re: Bruner with Holdsworth (Dan Quayle Edition)
At second glance, he did not drop a beat. He was dead on on the fill. I apologize for the dropping the beat comment that I had previously stated. He is a mutant, with sick abilities. I should go practice.

Re: Let's talk EVLIN!!!
I know it's the go to for everyone, but A Love Supreme is just ridiculous. The second track, Resolution, changed the way I thought about jazz, about music, about drumming, about intensity, about life. The way that Elvin, and the entire band play that album, and especially THAT track... is effing min...

Re: Bruner with Holdsworth (Dan Quayle Edition)
Man, we really need to stop throwing Vinnie's name for comparing or anything... Some dig Ronald, some don't, it's the same for EVERY drummers, you can't please everybody, but as long as the guy who is hiring you dig you, it's the most important thing. True. But, Rodge! We have to compare everyone t...

Re: Bruner with Holdsworth (Dan Quayle Edition)
I liked it. Bruner plays, and can play some stuff that I'll never be able to do. And going for it in a live situation is what I love about live music. Yes, he dropped a beat in the beginning, but that's acceptable in a live context. I get off on seeing that type of stuff. How the players react and r...

Re: Phrasing/feel-a lightbulb moment for me
Groove and how you (YOU) do it is the same as the way that you speak. I'd like to be able to articulate as well as Hitchens, but that just will not happen. I've recently come to the mindset that I'll never be able to truly cop someone's grooves or licks, because I'm ME, not them. The reason anyone d...

Re: Gadd
the guy gets decimated in a straight up trade, the Buddy Rich Memorial is a very explicit example. I gotta disagree with that notion. I don't think that he was decimated AT ALL in the trading with Weckl & Vinnie. He played some badass shit (and yes, one or two of his offerings were kinda just, m...
