Re: Blushda (and apology)
"Blushda" side note, I have a student (former) who's been working on playing this lick with his feet. Could be interesting to hear if you had multiple kick drums with different tunings. Has anybody else on here tried it with their feet and do you have any recordings? Peace, Sammy J ya, th...

Re: Hello!!
You are a monster player, and are in the good company of being on tour with my buddy Kyler Clark. Say what's up from me and have a great rest of the tour!

Re: Blushda Alert
I watched the video and thought it was good. The way Mike plays the lick sounds more staccato than the way that I've always played it, and that's what I dug about it. Just a little bit different enough of an interpretation to warrant a new look at an old friend (I like the idea of the two bass drum/...

The main thing I do when I'm not into playing a gig (whether it's from the beginning, middle, or between sets) is to remind myself that playing drums is what I have loved to do since I was a kid, and still love to do, and that I've practiced and gigged countless hours to be able to get payed to play...

Re: WTF Vinnie from the Chaka DVD (UNSEEN FOOTAGE)
So, the entire time that a camera is in his face, he says nothing. Perhaps presuming that the film crew is just getting lighting and perspective and all that other stuff about filming that I don't understand. Okay. BUT... Everything else that he's filmed doing (concerts, rehearsals, sessions, BOOTLE...

Re: Eric Harland
He's sooooooooo bad. Like, Mike Jackson bad. You know? For serious. He's one of the dudes. You like jazz drumming? Harland does it. Not better... but differently than, say, Art Blakey. Dig.

I just shit myself. And I'll sit in my own shit to watch this at least 2 more times. Then, I'll have a lot of explaining to do to the wife. But for now... I think I peed a little, too. Don't care. Sitting in it.

Re: Carlock's bass drum sound
It's kind of an odd snare set-up -- does it work for anyone else? Steve Smith and Buddy Rich come to mind, who angled their snares away from them, I'm sure there's some other cats out there too just can't think of any at the moment. I kind of meant around here. I know Buddy Rich tilted his snare, b...

Re: Here is an Idea
Yes! I think that because Stick Control AND Syncopation are so open-ended and that there a so many different approaches to those books that it warrants a DVD . Perhaps along the lines of the brush thing that Steve Smith did. Doesn't really need to be a who's who of drumming, just anyone that has a g...

Re: Holy shit, Gavin...
Wowzers! Having played and heard Killer Joe eleven-ty bazillion times, I wasn't sure I was going to like this clip. But the arrangement was awesome! Lots of really cool lines and backgrounds, and the feel changes were nice as well. Nice playing by Gavin almost goes without saying, but I'll say it an...
