I guess Steve Gadd was busy the day they recorded "Sunset"?
:)

Great song, too.

That seems to be the case with a lot of his early studio output. Check out 'Too Hip for the Room' by Patrick Williams: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/too-hi ... d316256370

I'm ashamed to say that I've never heard that song. I would have bet anything that that was SG playing. Thats just another example of the enormous shadow Gadd cast on everyone.

Well, at that time for working, I mean for making his break in the studio scene, it was hip to play like Gadd except for giant like Mason, Green, Jeff and so on, but earlier, I don't hear any Gadd in Vinnie's crazy/agressive drumming, spcecialy in Zappa's music.

And soon anyway, Vinnie had his own trademark.
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

Absolutely, man. While I've never heard a track that was a complete Gadd clone from Vinnie, I hear little things that were Gadd influenced, even in some of the Zappa stuff. You can always tell it's Vinnie though. I've never heard him say as much in interviews but I've always wondered if his hi-hat work was as influenced by Zigaboo as much as Copeland.

Exactly Clint, as influences Vinnie talks about Tony, Billy Cobham, Zigaboo, Elvin, but not about Steve for whom he has of course the most sincere and deepest respect.

But yeah, that hi-hat work, it should be Stewart isn't it ?

Kazu Matsui has a strong relationship with Vinnie...
Vinnie has played drums on many Kazu and Keiko Matsui's cds...
