Totally stoked- Marcus Baylor is playing my kit tonight!

Postby JerryOnDrums » Tue Dec 27, 2011 1:38 pm

So yeah, a mutual friend called me the other day and asked if I would mind if Marcus Baylor used my kit for a gig here in town (St. Louis). His band Free Day is playing at a small club downtown. Needless to say I didn't hesitate in saying yes. Marcus needed a Yamaha kit, and I happen to have a couple, so it was a no-brainer. I just met up with him about an hour ago at the sound check to drop off the kit, and he was an EXTREMELY nice dude. Very thankful to me for loaning my kit, and totally approachable and easy-going. He was especially digging on the 20X14" bass drum, and I explained how it took Yamaha almost a year to deliver it on custom order, but was TOTALLY worth it.

So yeah! Can't wait for tonight. I'll definitely try to get some video as well and post it up; should be quite sick.

Happy holidays!

Let's see some pictures of the kit too, mate! I was thinking of going 20x14 on my next kit. You use it for most things?

Hey willyz. I actually haven't been playing my 20 too often, as I have a Gretsch 70's bop kit for jazz stuff and a 22X16" Yammy BD that I play with my metal band. I recently got the 20 back out though and put a Super Kick I on it and tuned down my 12X8 and 15X14 toms to pair with it to get a nice dirty, low, funky sound that could work in both jazz-esque or rock-esque situations...too many kits to keep straight! But after playing it the other day for awhile, I remembered just WHY the kick was worth the wait. It's incomparable!

Nice kit, great performance. So, 12, 15, 18 is it? Very nice. It was a Yamaha rep who spread the equal-tom-size-increments idea. Another would be 10, 13, 16.

After re-reading the thread, I can see how I made it sound like that Phil, but no, this kit as pictured is 10/14/16. I also have a 12X8 and 15X14 tom that I pair with this 20" kick, but these pictures happen to be of the 10/14/16 toms with the 20. At first Marcus was going to play the bigger toms, but when he found out they weren't matching (I plucked 'em off of Ebay for a nice price), he decided to use the 10 and 14 with the 20. I need some more recent pics! :)
