I can definitely relate to not being able to make music professionally. Here in my area there's not a lot happening, especially for someone like me that doesn't drink or do drugs... and has considerable investment in both time and money into what I do. I haven't exactly given up on being professional in music, but it certainly won't get my bills done every month. Of course, I don't have any children or any real attachments at the moment that makes things a bit easier. Don't have any real world advice to give except don't give up on music. However, you need money like we all do and it would be best to seek the means to get some...
