Hello all!
Would anybody know a good book, or an anthology even, on the history and development of contemporary music from the early 20th century up to now? It is my long-term plan to get my general and drumming-related knowledge updated and basically learn how what we listen to today evolved from genres popular in past years.
Thanks!

Steve Smith does a pretty fantastic job in his
"Drumset Technique/History of the U.S. Beat" DVD set.
On the "History" DVD (DVD 2) he covers everything from early jazz all the way through to modern rock / funk.

I don't know of any books, but I'm sure there must be some good ones. I will second the Steve Smith DVD mentioned above though. Very well done.
