Wow… quite a story. Guy sounds like a real jerk.

One thought struck me... With the actual DMB touring like there is no tomorrow, year in and year out, where is there a market for a tribute band? ;)

Good luck with the Santana band. Sounds like a blast.

I don't think that's him. The guy I had the issue with was white (from what I remember.) And this incident was MANY years ago, someone on another forum told me onetime that they thought they knew who the kid was, and that he had a VERY bad rep! And the personnel of this band in question has probably changed MANY times in the time since this happened. I don't want to start a "witch hunt" trying to figure out who this kid was, who cares! And if a good (hard working) guy was accused of being this punk, I'd feel awful.

I just related the story to (hopefully) teach the younger guys here to always be respectful of other (people) musicians, no matter who they are, might be, and regardless of playing ability. It's just a good thing to do!

If someone is not on your playing level, inspire them. If someone is "above" your level, learn from them. And no matter who they are, lend a helping hand. Throughout my playing and writing career, I have worked with many of "the greats," and most of the drummers (with only a VERY few exceptions) have been sincere and good guys. Most drummers are, so we need to pass this tradition on to the younger cats, each one teach one!

And let's not start slagging on (the real) Dave Mathews Band. They are hard working guys, and while I don't "love" their music, I have the highest respect for them.

That craigslist ad is hilarious, what drives people to drop that much doing on a an instrument just because someone else had it? I'll never understand it!

Thanks for all of the comments, it's a good gig! Hope to see a few of you out at a few gigs, don't be afraid to say hello!

Great story...I always like to hear when some cocky a-hole is put in his place. I opened for a lot of name acts back in the day and never had a major problem when asking to use a piece of my own gear. They were all real pros though...I even had some guys go overboard to make me as comfortable as possible and I always expressed my appreciation for that.
