While I shouldn't check out Mike's interviews anymore, knowing what I'll find there, I just can't get over how biased the interviewer was for the last 5 minutes or so. The guy's ego is big enough already, giving him wings to rant AGAIN about how much hate he's gotten is just absurd.

Are you talking about the Mike Portnoy interview?

I thoroughly enjoyed the Brendan Buckley interviews, really explained just how becoming a pro musician isn't some sort of magical thing. It takes a lot of hard work, and then taking on every opportunity you can to play gigs because you'll never know who will be watching/listening.

I know Ian the editor of iDrum very well, and he's one of the best driving forces on the media side of the industry!

He was Zildjian's European artist relations guy for a long time, and had a long period in the same job for Sonor too. He's very well connected and did a fantastic job of creating "Drummer" magazine for the UK when there was already a well established (20 years) competitor in a very small marketplace.

He's a drummers drummer, and I know he's well open to requests and ideas to help us ALL as a community. Whatever you like/don't like, I know he's eager to hear it...

Of course, the rest of the magazine is top level. I really enjoyed Pete Locket's lesson and the Brendan Buckley interview. And for some reason I do like the "old school mag" look :)

Mark, I really hope iDrum can maintain the quality of this product, because I imagine it being ridiculously expensive to maintain. All of the interviews appear to be remotes with 3 cameras! I work for a TV station, so I have a clue how expensive that is. But I'm SO impressed with the production value. I doubt many realize just how much went into producing each of those videos.

My only suggestion so far is to consider editing the interviews down if they're going to play them in one big clip. I know it's the web so we think of it as a bottomless newshole. If you have 25 minutes with Mike Portnoy, why wouldn't you put up the whole thing? But a lot of that interview was really tedious. I think it could've been 5 minutes, but 15 probably would've satisfied the biggest Portnoy geek while keeping my less-than-fan interest.

As a writer by trade I love how crisp the text on the page is. Just really impressed how much attetnion has been paid to detail, right down to the navigation of the page. I'd hate to have their programming bill.
“Let's try some of my songs.” Dave Grohl, top sign drummer will be fired.

Isn't Ian the guy on the Manu Katché Zildjian promo video?
