cool video, nice skills.

it is sorta weird seeing people post videos of them playing along with tracks. It's a glimpse into their practice world.

I think the reality is that the Internet has exposed just how many musicians there are out there. There are so many more guys who never ever gig and just play music for fun. A few of those are very good and could gig, but their location or some other constraint prevents it.

I love it when people post these vids of themselves playing along to someone else's tracks.

I also love it when people post original music.

It's fun to see the full spectrum of what is out there, no matter what the context is. If someone doesn't have the time to contribute something original, then I am still happy to hear a cover.

I guess I didn't read the disclaimer when I picked up the sticks that stated how serious the making of music is, and that playing for fun is against a secret central dogma.

Heaven forbid my drums create the same exact compression waves that one of my favorite drummer's drums have created... and that *gasp* I choose to share it...

What, U never practiced to your favorite band...tried to nail the tune?

Talent is talent...I agree, creating parts/composition is where any artist strives to
be...but if you're in college or living in South Dakota and dig drums...the choices
are slim. You do what ya gotta do. Drum companies live off these guys. This IS
Joe Average...guy playing in basement after work, maybe finding a few dudes from
work to jam with.

Move to LA, find a studio apt, and be one of 10,000 drummers with talent. When I see
a guy like this, it reminds me talent is a small part of "making it"...marketing yourself
like Kenny Arnoff did early on is the missing quality in most. That guy "wanted it"

Yeah that was nice, it's gotta be awesome having a trumpet and sax player in your band!

He's a good player, his time felt a little shaky though. Maybe he was thinking too much of playing DRUM STUFF. No bashing here though, I think he is an accomplished drummer.

Steve, while I agree with your post about equal skills, what deep fried seemed to rail him on was the idea of his post in the first place. Not his skills, although he does throw out a couple of contradictions while describing the kids playing. Why not show an example of the type of youtube post that would be acceptable? If I posted a video of myself playing, I would fully expect negative comments and critiques. I would not expect to get ripped up for posting a video though, in relation to intent.

Steve Holmes wrote:It really depends on if folks are available to play music, or maybe it's a student in school just in the shed and making videos of themselves, nothing wrong with it really. Thank god the internet wasn't around when I was younger. It would have been Rush covers on my double bass vestalite kit *shudders*.

Unfortunately you probably cant post them but I would have love seeing that...
