This video actually sounds worse than the Soultone, but its her lighting it up a bit. She is no slouch. She is deeper than those other videos allude to.

She's a fuggin excellent drummer and just got a gig most of us would LOVE to have. The jealousy and judgment is entertaining, though.

Um, Matthugen, two things. One just because she may play better than you doesn't mean she is great. Two, judging the playing of an unknown drummer on one the most high-profile musician gigs there is, is not jealousy. As stated by someone earlier, if you listen blindfolded or if she was a man, she would probably not have the gig. I, personally will eat my words if she sounds amazing on the gig. Good luck to her.

I played the video's of Veronica's version and Vinnie's version from Live at Ronnies to a newbie student..

The verdict was Veronica is better cause she's not sweaty... ha ha

I played them for another student that is intermediate.... He liked her version better cause she was better on the toms than he was..

Then I played him vinnies led boots solo from the same live show , then he said " Well that totally changes my opinion about him"
"At one spot it looked like he was playing with both hands.. but then he pushed up his glasses at the same time." haha,.

Dont take it so personally. I am enjoying the thread. Without people willing to lay out their proclamations and judgements of her greatness or lack there of this thread would be over already. I'll choose to take away something positive. Some of the negative stuff sometimes comes across as professional jealousy . . . which is fine.

Im not taking it personally. Just don't make a blanket statement about the rest of us being judgemental and jealous because I or others don't think, from these videos that she is a good choice for the gig. Apparently someone in Beck's camp felt she was. Based on these youtube videos. I just don't know what Im missing I guess.

You are making a much bigger deal out of my statement than was ever intended. It was not a "blanket statement about the rest" of anyone. I am sorry you were hurt by it.
If this young lady is judged by the company she keeps she is doing very well. Even on this board there is a healthy criticism of players that she should be proud to be in the same company with. I think there is something "great" about her. Her sound/phrasing is totally young-modern-rockish with a dose of a gospel-shops. She is hip.

It is natural to REACT to the floor dropping out. Vinnie was on the 100th story of the building...
now we see someone who might be on the 5th story. It is natural to react by thinking, "WHAT?"
If you want to unpack that reaction, that makes for an interesting thread that will run in many directions.

If Sting asked this or another similar type drummer play with him after Vin, the reaction would be the same.

Heck, I reacted in a similar way when Abe got the Sting gig!

I was checking out the live a Ronnies dvd.. and while Vinnie's performance was killer from a drummers perspective...
There was alot of self indulgent things that he chose to do.. To me he was treating it like an improvisation type gig. lots of interplay..
But I didn't hear too much interplay going on from the others.. Vinnies awesomeness stuck out alot and seemed a little out of place..
Most of his fills were on the where's 1 side of things...

I can see where hiring someone who can play the gig and hold down the fort would make sense in comparison..

Also, using Vinnie would cost a fortune.. something tells me doing venues like Ronnies doesn't cover a salry that Someone like Vinnie would command...

The "hold down" point is clear, and I think nobody here is discussing about the new drummer´s style.
It´s just that some of us are surprissed about the choice, not if the drummer is HI or SHE.
Youtube is full of unknown drummers who would have do the gig, with a LEVEL that any of us would discussed...

If someone would had posted this video, with a 20 years old young drummer (boy) playing EXACTLY the same, this topic hardly would had reached 0-3 replies.

Please, don´t react with the jealous/envious thing if we have something to say about a drummer who has achieved something that we didn´t do it.

Al of us use the same adjetives: great, awesome, kill it...but the measure tools/reference seem different.
Some days ago, I watched a film with Al Pacino in the main role, and I clicked the OFF button before the 30 minutes.
Anyone know Al Pacino ?
Am I a better actor that Al ?
Am I jealous ?
