There was alot of self indulgent things that he chose to do.. To me he was treating it like an improvisation type gig. lots of interplay..
But I didn't hear too much interplay going on from the others.. Vinnies awesomeness stuck out alot and seemed a little out of place..
Most of his fills were on the where's 1 side of things...

I can see where hiring someone who can play the gig and hold down the fort would make sense in comparison..

Also, using Vinnie would cost a fortune.. something tells me doing venues like Ronnies doesn't cover a salry that Someone like Vinnie would command...

At that time Vinnie was really involved in JB's band, so I think that he did the salary adjustement necessary.

And I think also that Vinnie hold back sometimes, in the same time I really love the fact that he doesn't too.
But you see the live video at Ronnie's, and you hear some of the bootleg from that same show, what's on video, I think that Vinnie is holding back.
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

VinniethisVinniethat....I think it's a bit unfair giving her all this shit, without first hearing how she actually sounds with Jeff Beck.

For now I'm gonna use this

I only go see Jeff Beck specifically for the other players. Wouldn't go see him on this tour with his new line up.

Don't listen to Beck, don't think his music is really that great on a whole anyway. It gives some monsters a good vehicle to blast over, and that I like to see. But other wise there's a TON of electric guitar wanking out there.

IMO without the stellar line up a Jeff Beck show wouldn't be worth the ticket price.

Josiah, I'll pay for seeing Jeff Beck without any other musicians with him on stage, he's a frekin' genius, can't you hear this ? His tone ? His sound ? He's a real magician.

I think it comes down to personal preference. I'm not saying Beck isn't an amazing guitarist, he is undoubtedly an amazing guitarist. But it's not my cup of guitar tea if you will.

I was simply trying to illustrate the point, that in this case, it's an artist I would without hesitation pay to see with a particular line up, sans that stellar line up, it's an artist I wouldn't necessarily pay to go see.

I've seen Beck live with Simon Phillips, Terry Bozzio, Steve Alexander, and Vinnie Colaiuta. Aside from Alexander, every show was pretty incredible (especially the one with Simon and the one with Vinnie when Rod Stewart showed up).

Veronica is a fine drummer, and she will benefit greatly by this association, but she is not of "Jeff Beck" calibre. She will need tough skin to withstand the onslaught from various forums such as this, but I do understand the choice. It will get Jeff press he might not have gotten otherwise. Plus she won't demand as high a salary as more well-known/established players, and Beck isn't exactly playing big rooms anymore.

But if it were really about the music, and Beck is looking for a certain "something", he would have held auditions (whether cattle-call or by invitation only). I don't think Jeff has ever held auditions though. He just has a revolving door when it comes to sidemen/women in his band.

I don't think that Steve Alexander was worthy of the gig either, and his playing definitely left me cold (both on record and live).

I'd love to hear Thomas Pridgen with Beck.
