Fred minus drums

hey guys,

I posted some links a while ago, but I finished a backing track of Tony William's Fred, minus drums. I took some liberties with it, mostly because I'm not a rhodes/guitar player, so there's no solos, just comping chords. Anyway, I'm curious if what you guys think.

Truly amazing what Tony did with this track and the entire LP.

Listening w/o drums lacks life and energy...this might be the most
amazing and pivotal drum performance in the modern era.
This was a time when all was changing into the modern era...
Tony shifted the balance here imo.

It all comes back to this era imo...and this performance. I might be off,
but not by much.

First time I heard this it was one of those moment when I stopped everything.
WHAT was happening here? WHO is this? So pure. So filled with raw energy
and personality.

Comments?

Chester Thompson turned me onto Tony Williams. He kept raving about him at a drum clinic (first clinic I ever went to). That record totally changed me. I immediately silk screened "TONY WILLIAMS" onto my denim jacket soon after hearing this. Looking back, my friends at high school must have thought I was nuts.

I havent' listened to the track posted yet, but thanks for that! I'm planning to create a bunch of "play along" tracks of some Pat Metheny Group songs soon if anyone's interested.

Deseipel,
Thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed it. My only criticism is the click banging away.

'Fred' has been one of my favorites for a long time. Every song on 'Believe It' is unbelievable! Tony's sophisticated rock playing mixed with Allan's swirling, phased SG just does it for me.
It's really interesting to hear the influence of this tune on Vinnie's 'I'm Tweaked' in the unison guitar/keyboard lines playing fives.

I can post a non-click version. I just figured since the tune begins with drums; it would be hard to know where it's at without a click. I'll post a version where you get 4 clicks and then the song starts.

edit:

Here it is with a 2 bar count off instead of clicks throughout.

Send it to Ron Bruner so he can learn to play it in time... ;)
