That´s regular jazz ride positioning... The thing is when you use 2 or more toms. Here´s the king of that kind of ride placement.... 8-)

.. and that, along with alleviating back pain, is why I'm totally a zealot for Weckl's "mount the first rack tom off of a stand" philosophy.

...aha...so that's why Weckl moved his rack toms. I always thought it had something to do with the trad grip. His small Tom seems to fall nice into place for that. Also the way he angels them I thought of coming handy for trad. But it makes perfect sense to free up the second tom from the ride. But I just hate to have the ride at 'garage band' ( :D ) position. Not comfy at all and I too don't get why Colaiuta does that at times. Maybe he likes to force himself into different situations. That setup from Manu is just ...just 'wow' :D

Oh MAN!!! What a BAND! That is my fav musical setting for Manu, he is a total genius when it comes to 'play on the fly'.One of the fastest brains around, and what a taste. Loved it! You could put him too in a 'group' of drummers with ties to Tony Williams..like Vinnie.

Holy shit that's some nice aggressive playing on there. He almost loses the horns towards the end, they're totally facing him to catch the hits it looks like. That was great, thanks for sharing!
