Snare looks different, but if those toms feel the same as the older ones looking the same there isn't much growth there.

Something real has to be done about those mesh heads just to compete with the Yamaha rubber ones.

Yeah. Pretty "meh" sounding.

Some tasty fills and super tight groove here.

^ That did not sound good. What a waste of great drumming.

Roland's built in sounds have never been to impressive. They win with ease of use and that's about it.

Never seen Vinnie use anything but the Handsonic, tabla with Beck, which made sense in that context.

For extra electronics you can really use anything. SPD-SX seems like a nice practical unit.

Mesh heads still feel like crap. Even if they themselves say this is meant as a solution for home practice, in 2018 they should be doing better.

The Roland stuff just sounds horrible to me. Last time I tried out the latest Yamaha stuff I felt it was much better, especially the way the pads felt, but I've heard that they can have problems too (bubbling up).

This sounds a lot like what Rudy and others do...take drumming and add a soundtrack over it.

Vinnie's Decent into Madness project...

Cool that Vince got a shout out.

Herbie always amazes me. 78 years old, and he's still a monster - not a bit of resting on past achievements as a Jazz Icon (which he very easily could do.) He's still as relevant, and hip as anyone on the scene.
