VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta
Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta
I searched on the forum and found a couple of shorter videos with Jeff Beck and Vinnie at the North Sea Jazz Festival, but I didn't find this hour long version. Maybe I missed it, but otherwise here it is.
No drums no life, know drums know life...

I think I may have asked before, but does anyone have a bootleg of a Brandon Fields gig in the 80's with Vinnie and Tim Landers? They play a tune called Bullfunk, during Tim's bass solo Vinnie takes it out quite a bit. It's amazing! I had it on cassette and I can't find it.
Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta
Oh, I used to have that one, on cassette too, but it was with Jimmy Johnson, they play some great stuff !!!
Vinnie asked if he could take a solo on "Bullfunk", they also played "Pools", CRAZY gig !!!

Re: VINNIE - The thread about Colaiuta
I think I have a few versions of Bullfunk that I digitized years ago and cleaned up with Audio Cleaning Lab.
Brandon is the leader. "POOLS" also.
When I heard Pools, I immediately made a list of compositions (( well known to the jazz / fusion community ))
that, were I a producer, I would hire Vinnie to play on a record including Pools,
Take Five, Cute, and other common tunes.
Pools made me think of this because hearing him interpret Pools was
unlike any other interpretation-nothing like Erskine's or even Gadd's ! Vinnie has a way of making a tune his own.
His unique way of orchestrating his fills, announcing the next passage or section of the song, dynamics etc made
me want to have him put his stamp on tunes YOU and I have played to see "what is possible."
