That venue sounded terrible. Hard to be inspired when all you hear is white noise.

Interesting how he was playing the Steve Smith Moeller ostinato solo thing that has been played to death..

Still a great solo.. He's always got something cool happening. Too bad the sound was so washy.. Hard not to have that effect your performance and what you choose to play.

More money means "more" lifestyle. I thought everybody knew that. Haha

Just checked out the 1986 Porcaro Musician Institute clinic.. here:

... Jeff Porcaro recomends Bill Meyers' "Images" album saying: "I haven't heard Vinnie play this good, ever... Vinnie sounds unbelievable".

Never heard this one before... Really really nice find...

Always loved that song, the shuffle starting at 7:43, I like what Vince does there, I prefer when he plays with some music than when he's soloing alone, and nice Nik Kershaw t-shirt. :-)

Wow, that photo is incredible !!! :-)

The style change that happens with age is an interesting topic. The physical aspect cannot be ignored, for certain. If you are not over 50 or 60 you cannot know what that is all about. The 80s Colaiuta was so edgy and aggressive compared to what is happening now but I still hear some of that edge. It is there but sparser and layered and just as expressive. Listen to something like Clark Kent on MSM Schmidt and you have to say the same thing you did back in the day.

WOW that is an epic pic of Freese & Vinnie. ring-bearer...insane...got to listen to that podcast again.

yeah on that Bill Meyers [all the LA cats on that date] album...back in the day, i found this one 16 bar trading section in Voyager that is just NUTs and transcribed it. the fills start at 4:14 and it is complete BEAST MODE. Vinnie's speed, power & flams here is crazy. i might even say un-repeatable:
