Benny Greb 2010

Postby drum6282 » Thu Nov 11, 2010 10:00 am

While I didn't particularly care for the bulk of the Language of Drumming or his two solo releases, I love the sound of his drums and cymbals. I really enjoyed his performance and solo on the Modern Drummer 2010 DVD. His snare drum is a particular favorite of mine - I believe it's been a Beech 13x6.5 - not sure the bearing edge or thickness of the shell, but he now has a new signature snare coming out with similar specs. His beech kit sounds amazing...I see Gretsch just released a limited beech wood kit too.

He must have a great manager - the marketing of him as a brand is really working out. He's got a signature ride, hi hat and trash hat with Meinl, signature sticks with Pro Mark and now a signature snare with Sonor.

Here's the link to the sonor page regarding his snare for those interested.

A great career as what ? Clinician ? Or you are aware of the music market in Germany ?
Because except that he plays on drum fest, drum events, and did some DVD, I don't know what he does, someone can tell me ?

I'm sure he's a good musician anyway.
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

That whole section of the DVD is absolute genius. "An LP sounds better than a CD and an MP3" :)

While watching my very first clinic clip of Benny Greb I immediately thought Enzo Tedesco with attitude and a dble pedal. Enzo 25 years ago!

I also think the DVD is a huge part of his popularity among drummers.

As for the gear, I'd bury that Sand Ride. Just saying ...
