This is borderline BS, but I just enjoy the heck out of Jojo

Brian Blades said much the same is a simpler way...
play one pattern for longer periods of time until you
own it...over 5 mins if possible with same dynamics
before adding another layer.

If you play Funky Drummer or another JB tune that goes on and on, you can get into a trance. Same goes for playing afro-cuban music, which can require playing the same thing for a very long time. You need to know how the rhumba clave operates in and out.

Maybe JoJo got into the edibles before going on stage...

There are few people in the music industry that I enjoy listening to in interviews as much as Jojo. He’s very confident and comfortable with himself, and has thought a lot of seemingly complex issues through to simple and straightforward answers.

Unrelated: No doubt it’s travel, but a little sleep couldn’t hurt the guy.

He's working on his Dylan.

Matched is because he's got more stuff on the left side.

The big change is the high cymbals. I don't really see anything else. It's maybe a bit about visuals and that his main focus is his three "hats." He doesn't play them much, Having them there may just be about not having them so accessible and having to be more conscious about when he chooses plays them.

That interview was so good. If you didn’t watch the whole hour, take the time. Say what you will (Gettin his Dylan on, stuffed up sinuses, etc.) Fuq all that. Watch and listen with no distractions. He’s got something to say and he’s a true artist. Experimental, driven, consumed, opinionated, deadly serious, and well spoken. You can tell he doesn’t spend all day thinking about drums. He’s a heavy philosopher. Lots to gain and take away from this.
