I attended a workshop with Zach for one week in 1996.
I found the sheets (practice material) which he handed out.
He would practice that stuff (especially the groupings in 16th notes).

I just scanned the exercise sheets again since the download link wasn't working anymore.

That lesson video is the motherlode!! Next best thing to having a lesson with Zach... I’m gonna be transcribing the shit out of what he’s playing in that video (although that is in many ways counter intuitive as Zach doesn’t think of his playing like that, but still I want to achieve some of what he’s doing, call it an obsession of mine)

Oh man I remember seeing this back in the early 2000's - haven't seen on YT in a long time.

Wow Zach’s playing when he was 17/18 was fantastic! Nice use of the six stroke roll, Weckl-ish licks and some great Songo... when I was that age I was tentatively learning Nirvana tunes with my pals and ignoring school exam study for such pursuits!
I think he’s up there with Tony for mature playing at such an age and now... well it’s some crazy metric stuff!

Come on man, Tony was inventing a new style of revolutionary drumming, he was a real pioneer, Zach, he plays really great here, he's kind of "cloning" Dave Weckl, in a very good way, as did the great Cliff Amond too.

In fact, here Zack makes me think more about the great Tom Brechtlein.

I remember also when all these young talented drummers, Zack, Cliff and even Gary, were leaving Yamaha for not being on the same roaster with Vinnie and DW.

That’s fair Rodge I should’ve said he’s not quite the pioneer like Tony was at that age, but still impressive he sounded that good at a young age, kinda like JoJo with Monty Alexander. And you are right, Zach said in an interview that he was a Weckl clone at that age and didn’t want to be on a record sounding so much like him and that’s why he quit the band.
