I was ALL over Frontiers and Beyond back in the day!!!

A lesser known Smith LP...???

Can u say LOWRIDER? Steve's snare is almost at his throat
in height! We thot Vinnie sat low in the day...they were
roommates yes? I do miss this Steve tho...like a different
player compared to that recent clinic.

Frontiers is a drum masterpiece...Steve composed parts with surgical expertise on this one!
Talk about NOT overplaying...he just rides the pocket during the solo w/sparse BD play and
lets the groove take over...drum sound is incredible.

Not only is Steve's playing cool as hell, that riff...jeezus. Schon could put notes together. Ballsy, a bit like Townshend. Sets Steve up to play a killer groove. Nice bassline during the soaring guitar solo too. I used to put this on the headphones and jam out. It makes you feel like you can conquer the world of music. Great energy.

Putting whatever reason this project is for aside...it is just really
hard to compare with this! Arnel sounds good IF we had no Sting,
but WOW...Sting's vocals and Cope's drum sound and playing is
just so ingrained. That snare Stewy uses just CRACKS so hard.

Stewart just makes me want to play. Smitty seems to be dragging that tune down, and those dark cymbals...not sure that's the right selection.

Stewart is a stylist. He just sounds like him and not really going to change his signature sound/style. Not too many players have that quality, probably because they want to work in as many situations as possible. Nothing wrong with being a Bonham, a Copeland, Bruford or a Keith Moon where the band in which they are in are defined by the drummer.
(Wow, most of those drummers that just came to mind are English ?? - interesting)

Stewart did play in an English prog band.

I told Bill Bruford when I met him that it is interesting that a lot of the unique stylists on the drumkit are English. They all seem to have their own take on things. You can go into the folk realm and find some really creative drumming.
