I cannot believe this amazing demonstration of stupidity and incompetence. Probably shared on both sides.
Long story short:

-Drummers Collective moves to a new building where they are assured sound proofing in this new building.
-They spend mad money building rooms inside new building, move into to new building.
- Building tenants immediately start complaining about the noise. Landlords become uncooperative and tell them to find a solution and deal with it.
- DC spends more money on sound proofing. Tenants continue complaining.
- DC hires independent sound consultant to measure decimal levels in surrounding offices. They are minimal. Landlord ignores evidence.
- Landlord tries to evict DC leading to a court battle. To avoid a costly court battle DC settles out of court.
- As part of the settlement DC must tear down all new construction and leave the building. They go back tot he old building incurring immense financial loss. <== WTF
- DC currently back at their old building.

They're an important school and worth saving regardless.

I can find stupidity in the idea of having a drum school with a tenant directly below in NYC. There is no such thing as a vacant floor in NYC. That way they would have more space to buffer.

Tenants and neighbors close by have a lot of push when it comes to noise. Shame this transpired.

This smells a little funny. They had no idea after being in NYC for all these years that where they were moving to would be a problem?

The best drum school in North America- I feel like although I paid for my education- they gave me a career. All the folks running it are NYC bred so they just got caught up in BS I'm sure. I sincerely hope they can rise above this and continue their amazing work.

I'm also an alumni of The Collective and a faculty member. It's truly an institution and my career would definitely not be the same without it. It's such an unfortunate situation, but the Collective will rise above. Hopefully, all of the funds needed will be raised for the school to keep going. They have some of the best teachers in the world and I'm proud to be a part of it. Please spread the word and help if you can. Thanks.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for bringing attention to this situation. I know that Tony and John will really appreciate it - all of us on the faculty do.
Cheers,
Tobias

Sounds like the Public School System where the head and body rarely connect.

I once raised money for computers at a local elementary school. The principal
was pumped up...this was a core goal before the governing board. When the new
school year started the computers sat, and sat, and sat...for 18 months!

They never hired a computer instructor!
