When a Drummer Changes Brands

Postby bored at work » Mon Dec 02, 2013 2:50 pm

How do you suppose or imagine a company feels when drummer X stops using their products and switches to a rival brand? Is it perceived as being the ultimate insult? Or should it force a company to examine the reasons why the drummer has made the change and reevaluate what they are doing?

First of all, if you switch brands, chances are it's at least a 75% business motivated decision. All brands are great, so it makes little sense to change your whole set of whatever just for the sake of art and sound. Take into account what you want: conditions, exposure, service...
I switched brands once. Long story short, after saying my decision was final and for the best, I was given something like "well, if you're willing to go maybe you're not the kind of artist for us". I laughed it off and lived happily ever after.
If a brand really wants someone not to go, they'll do anything to keep him. If they don't, life goes on. Now if a company loses a lot of artists in one big block -and I've seen this happen-, then they really should consider changing their way of doing things. Sadly, I've never seen this last thing happen.
Again, business.
