It's time for a new recording interface

Looks like the Presonus 1818svl is shitting the bed. Lots of pops and cracks on playback no matter how many tracks. My setup is pretty basic, just my macbook air and garage band for basic drum recording. Sometimes I wonder if USB is a bottle-neck. Updated the firmware and drivers, tons of folks online have this issue un-resolved unfortunately.

The Saffire Pro 40 has firewire out and support Thunderbolt with an adapter. This is much faster. It has the 8 inputs I need.

This has thunderbolt straight without firewire but the inputs aren't XLR. I would have to get xlr-1/4" adaptors.

But I'm not a real specialist of audio interfaces ...

No, those are line inputs... You won´t need adaptors, you´ll more preamps...
BTW, usb is probably not your problem... It has most likely to do with clumsy drivers (probably you started having more issues when upgrading to Mavericks?)
Thunderbolt is the future, but nothing you´re gonna need if recording only 8 tracks at a time... Spend some time lurking forums about interfaces and Mavericks, and follow that advice... Most of the interfaces uses the same DACs and similar components. Drivers and support is the only difference in that price range imo...

No preamps on the Audiofire either... You could grab an API lunchbox and pick flavors, but you´ll need a whole different budget...

I've had one of these for about a year. So far it's been good. Nice and quiet pre amp.

Enough XLR inputs for kick, snare, two toms, two floors, and two overheads.

Not too pricey either.
