Did anyone watch the Great Performances documentary on the Dave Clark 5?
Full episode at http://video.pbs.org/video/2365217224/ (I think this expires next week, but there's still some showing on PBS).
It was interesting -- not great, and a bit too hagiographic, but it was interesting. Lots of talk about his drumming and a fun story about Dave Clark meeting Buddy Rich. DC seemed to recognize that he wasn't a great drummer, certainly as compared to the greats. A lot of talk about Dave Clark as a visionary entrepreneur.
Anyway, the show didn't mention this (it wouldn't have), but I know that some people say he didn't do his own drumming on the records -- not sure if that's true or not. I do know that all the footage seemed to be mimed.

I caught the last five minutes of it. Looked like it was cool. Don't know allot about DC5. I'm a Beatles guy when it comes to 60s stuff. Was searching for when it would be on again and couldn't find it so, thanks!

Wasn't the Dave Clark band originally started just to raise money for their football club?

Kind of (at least according to the show).
