Keith Moon and black dots

Postby gretsch-o-rama » Wed Apr 16, 2014 6:24 pm

This is a simple opinion question poll: Did Tony Williams take the idea for black dots for his big kit fusion period from Keith Moon? I heard someone say that Tony was influenced by Moon but had no idea what they were referring to. So? Chime in. Thanks

Here. And if you need a distraction, think about how you don't have 8000 dollars.:-)

I never thought of that. You might be right. But then again, Black Dots were popular with a lot of people in the late 70s.

From 77. Black Dots on the bottom!

Really musical playing here...I love Quadrophenia.

I was actually hoping someone could chime in with some Tony stories...but it seems like we've lost all our Tony historians...

Not sure of the veracity, but I didn't know Lifetime opened for The Who. That must have been a volcanic show.

“The man is a drummer. Everything he plays, he contains it.” —Elvin Jones on Keith Moon

Writer Chris Welch - Tony Williams, American jazz drummer, idolized by legions of players, who came to fame at the age of 17 with Miles Davis, once told me, quite spontaneously, that his favorite drummer was Keith Moon. "He's beautiful. Totally free."

Man that video is more proof that is about the player and not the gear.

A set of A Customs and black dots on top of a DW kit that looks like it has a McDonalds sponsorship would be my last choice for that kind of gig, but he makes it awesome.

Do you think we could have taken Tony as seriously had he dressed up as Ronald McDonald? But LOL at that kit though and it's such a travesty with him on DW's...

I am totally interested in why Tony would respect Keith Moon's playing. It might explain to me why listening to Quadrophenia kills me so much, right in the brain.
