Reasonable China Cymbal

Postby sjj123 » Thu Jun 05, 2014 6:55 am

Looking for suggestions for a reasonably priced China cymbal brand that can get the job done but not break the bank...
Maybe 14" I'm thinking....

14" is pretty small. It will be quick, but only really useful for accents. I'm sure you're looking at used (craigslist, eBay), but for new, check out Wuhan.

I had a 14" Sabian HHX Evolution china before- I eventually sold it as I wasn't using it a whole lot, but I do miss it!

Check out the new PST7. Best quality/price line right now IMO.

Steve's China does sound amazing though it's from the 80's (right?) They definitely don't sound like that anymore. I remember once endorsed that was the first thing I went to pick out and couldn't find one that sounded near as good as Steve's. I did find and used to play the China High (Brilliant finish), which sounded great but they discontinued it (one of the reason's I started looking elsewhere and switched to Sabian). I do like the "Holy China" Sabian makes now and My china's I play from them sound amazing... As for the Wohan's, I bought them once and cracked it 6 minutes into a rehearsal. good luck with that..
Good luck, Sammy J

Not a strict china but I copied Weckl's "trashcan lid" (18" crash with 16" china stack), I find that sound great for an intense ride as well as china accents, using the tension of the nut to set sustain just so.

Perhaps I'm biased. :|

Buy something like this... try it and if it´s not working, sell it. For 150 bucks seems like a no-brainer for me...
