I had an older male cat (Wazoo) who would stand at the cat box and just point and shoot into it. A lot would end up on the wall behind the litter box.
So, I took my old bass drum heads and used them as a shield to deflect the misdirected fluids down into to the litter box.

You asked!

I had a bunch of slightly used heads lying around that I'd take off the kit if I were recording or something but which still had a little life in them. I recently got a steady weekly gig with a house kit that sees a few drummers a week. I've now replaced the snare head three times, and each tom twice. The manager noticed that and appreciated that I was saving them some money with heads I'm sure I'd never have used again. A little goodwill never hurts.

I wasn't really being serious, but I did try it recently.

About 20 years ago a homeless guy approached me with a 16" Ludwig floor tom that he wanted $20 bucks for; how could I resist?

I guess I should have, because it's done nothing except sit around until recently, when I thought I'd pull it out and see how it sounded.

I had an idea I'd try a new head combination, but I obsessed over it so much, I finally gave up and figured I'd play what was on there for a while.

I got the idea for the sandpaper because I wanted to smooth down the edges on the silver dot (it still had the original Ludwig Rockers head).

Sanding the whole head gave me a clean, uniform surface, slightly roughened.

Then I wondered if Armor All would restore elasticity.

I don't know if it did, and I couldn't tell if it made any difference in the sound, but I really liked the way it made the head feel.
