Anyone else playing the Bethlehem PA, Musikfest this week?
The Santana Tribute band I play in (Stone Flower) is headlining on Wednesday (August 6) at 9-11 on the Americaplatz Stage at the Levitt Pavillion.

We had a GREAT gig, promoters said we played to a few thousand. I talked to a few fans afterward that had also seen Steely Dan (right next door,) I also snuck in to catch a tune, and they sounded great! There was a fantastic singer-songwriter from Tennessee on before us and he was REALLY good! Sort of old Tom Waits (Heart Attack and Vine era) meets Jeff Tweedy. He had an amazing girl (who was local) playing drums (very Keltnerish!) with him.

I can't believe there was no one else from HOD (or any of the other drum boards I frequent) playing this festival, there are HUNDREDS of bands. It's a 10 day music festival!!! I got there early to see a few friends play, and left late, great hang! But now I'm taking a little vacation at the Jersey Shore (it's been a VERY busy year!)

I've played MANY festivals in the last 20 years or so, and this (as well as Milwaukee Riverfest, and Newport) is one of the best run festivals around. Kudos to ArtsQuest, and the local Radio Stations XLV and XPN whose DJ's did a great job in hosting the shows.

I zoomed it (drum cam style for my own education) but they also filmed it as well for closed circuit TV, if we can get some of that footage I'll try to post it.

No reason to be jealous Paul, it's just a gig!

But as I said, I did I drum-cam this gig with my Zoom, and have uploaded it to youtube in four parts. As I think I have said here in the past, this is an interesting gig due to the presence of the two other percussionists (congas, and timbales/bells.) Playing in a percussion section is a VERY different thing, I am very conscious of leaving space for them, and not ever playing the same thing as them (they were a little light in my mix for this gig, and what you are hearing is from my monitor.) It is entirely a GROOVE gig (a' la Shrieve and Nudgu, I try to add a bit of what the great Graham Lear did as well.) On the gig the "colorations" are more about the percussionists than the drums. I am pretty happy with my performance (there were a few missed hits, I'm still new on the gig,) except for the fact that the connection between my double bass drum pedal came loose halfway through my solo on "Soul Sacrifice," (last tune of the set) oh well, my fault I should have checked it. (Also be advised that my right hand crash is directly next to my zoom, so it's a little loud in the mix.)

Here's a youtube link to all four parts of the show, if you have nothing else to do.

Now that I have this youtube channel started I might try to upload some other recordings of some jazz gigs that I have done.
We'll see,

Just in case anyone wants to hear this music with a much better view, and a "possibly better" mix.
A fan of the band filmed these.
