Nothing like Holdsworth with Husband. A match made in heaven. Music of the gods.

That's a great pic!

Saw those two guys back in like 94 at Catalina's in Hollywood. Front row in front of the base drum. I almost got hit with a stick a few times. Sticks were flying out of Gary's hands on that gig. It was aggressive playing. I was 25 and never saw anything like it. Gary hits hard. I enjoy his stream of contiouneness playing. Alan has great taste in drummers.

I think this a great example where matched grip is the only way to get this ferociousness on the drums with Gary's flurries. The fulcrum would eventually give out with trad. grip. Though, Virgil D's fulcrum is pretty sound but over time would give out in this type of abandonment type playing. There is no way over time to play this hard and aggressive with trad. grip without getting arthritis in the thumb.

Very sick ideas. Very un-rudimental style drumming that is very primal. I've seen Gary way back in the day and after a night the floor looked like a lumber yard with all kinds of chips on the floor.

Pure expression on the instrument. The best kind of drumming, to me, is the kind that combines the upper cortex at the same time reaching inwardly for those methods of non-verbal communication.

Tony, Billy, Gary, Jack. There just that something else going on that's on a different plane. Love it.

I think that's the dangerous combination of artistry and professionalism...There's no sense being a pro musician if it's not at an "artists" level, IMO...
"Ding ding da ding." Apollo teaching Rocky how to Jazz.

Secrets has some scary playing on it, but the absolute best Holdsworth music for me is I.O.U., which is also my favorite record of ALL TIME. Gary was just a kid when he recorded that stuff. Nothing like it before or since.
