It's not a contest to see who can be most original, sometimes great execution is ...great execution. Plus I think even in the current YT saturation, she stands out a bit due to the depth of the ideas she's going for. She's doing some cool things with 5's that sound deceptively simple but they're not at all.

Cool stuff... At some points she talks about playing "in quintuplets", but it´s 5/8 to me. Either way, she sounds great.

Anika played at PASIC a couple of weeks ago. She played to tracks of just about all of the songs she's posted to YT.
I agree that a lot of her appeal is with her execution of some pretty advanced concepts. When someone asked what her favorite groove to play was she played a straight funk 2 & 4 groove. She also said that one of her biggest influences is Jeff Porcaro.

I found her on the expo floor later and asked her what kinds of gigs she was doing back in Germany. She was mainly playing various pop/rock gigs but plans to start touring her own band playing her original/YT tunes next year.

I would say she plays well and has some interesting ideas in a preordained 'composed' sense, all very Germanic and Lang like, but unfortunately I do think if she was a guy she wouldn't be getting the attention she is.
Please let's not start throwing terms around like 'advanced' because in the scheme of things what she does isn't. I wouldn't say she has that deep a pocket either, so so much for the old 'groove is my thing'. ..

She has that practice room style that shows what she has been working on that week.

Really? I think she deserves some recognition... Mike Johnston was on the cover of MD, talk about deserving your big break. She plays well, writes her music and doesn´t seem to rely on the I´m a drummer girl thing.
