this clip has the band footage. super cool tune. SS is shinning big time. Glad to see SS putting out great vibes.

Someone should tell Vinnie to play with this band. So many great drummers have and kill. check out peter e's performance. the best i have heard him play in decades.

That story is bizarre. Smells like PR to sell tickets.

Maybe Deeno is back singing and playing.

Wow, that is some bad news. On the official Journey FB there is a lot of Smith promo, not much for the band.

Maybe this is actually not a publicity stunt and he and Ross Valory tried to do that, and it seems with Steve Perry's help, along with their former manager. That's nuts.

1986
Perry:
"My original strategy was to keep the band intact, not to change anything," Perry told the Orlando Sun-Sentinel in 1986 after the album's release. "We played everything with the original band, but we ended up after three months with only a couple of keeper tracks. It was scary because we all saw the group in a different light. The three of us wanted to do these songs, but the band couldn't play them. So, we had to look and figure out where the weak link was. It turned out to be the rhythm section." Perry ended up firing Valory and Smith, breaking apart a lineup that had seen Journey rise to their chart zenith just a few years earlier with 1981's Escape.

Don't forget that during that time, pre-production was done with drum machines and keyboard sequencers, etc. Steve Smith wasn't used to recording music in that manner, and his drumming didn't sound appropriately "machine-like" which was all the rage at the time (remember how Dave Weckl sounded back then?)
