This song is all over the place...Jeff plays at least three separate grooves
and never rushes or overplays. It is so hard not to rush this tune or hit too
hard. I've recorded myself many times on this one and his time and feel
blows me away...I always over play something and my hits are inconsistent--
hit toms too hard, open hats with varying dynamics...only comes out on
play back...so this one I am in awe of.

Apparently not an early demo but rather stems from the master or something like that. Interesting to hear though. So dry!

Evidently Alex threw some Jake to the Bone as a backing groove to his solo

Funny Jeff at an MI clinic later 80's said he never could click 1/4's on the hats
while keeping time playing...he clearly is clicking off 1/4's playing the cowbell
part here...

I always forget this shuffle...it might the hardest to recreate. He has at least 3
separate hat lifts on this groove...I'm sure he is just playing, but it makes it really hard
to capture...nobody comes close on drum covers. Everyone overplays and misses the
nuances. Some of THE sweetest hat lifts ever...
The lifts:
@0:09; @0:28 before cymbal crashes
@0:07; @0:45; @1:02; 1:08; 1:12 the sweetest
@1:22 similar, but not the same
@1:50 similar, but not the same
@2:06; @3:02

Some isolated shuffles by Jeff from his DVD...just pasted them together.
Who plays a half time shuffle like Jeff? (last groove)

I took an isolated 8 measure 1/8 groove from a Porcaro video that Pocketplayer linked me to, looped it and layered it with a couple of random tunes, including a bit of EW&F thrown in, a mozambique percussion track and a shaker. I'm sure no-one but me and pocketplayer gives a fuck but here it is anyway. :D

Just shows you how the MONEY GROOVE works in almost anything!
You just never hear cats today lay down pocket like this without filling
and hats rolling madness! Excellent editing job Rudy...if you played
this to non-musos they would wonder what LP this is from!

Vintage Jeff groove here, from some classic Boz Scaggs...

All I can say is: SMOOTH!

While I don't think it's fair to compare ANYONE to Jeff, this cat seems to have the right idea. ;)

I learned so much about playing drums by putting the headphones on and playing along to Silk Degrees. It's got everything.

This freaking groove. Take your head off. And those slick fills.

This is apparently a live version recorded in 76. First I've heard it. Jeff is burning.

This is prime 70s blue eyed soul. He uses that quick four-note fill all over this record, it sounds so good.
