Inredible acting chops...

Vinnie takes the drum out of the box with its stock drum head on and hits it with his hand. It sounds like any flappy, awful drum head that you get straight out of the box. Fairly dreadful.
"There it is. There's that sound. There's that sound that I know. That sound that I love. There's that familiar sound. There's that great sound. There it is, it's really remarkable. That sound that I miss."
Seriously?? WTF? Am I tripping? Wasn't he playing and evangelising about Ludwig drums a few weeks ago??!
I mean, I love Vinnie as much as the next guy, but this is bs to another level. How much is he paid to day this? In the subsequent demo that follows, the drums sound average at best and could be any badly tuned set of drums.

You should not believe anything Vinnie ever says. I think he was paid about $1,200 for taking part in that video, plus another $5 for each view generated. Also, Gretsch makes really bad sounding (and looking) drums. I don't think anyone likes them, let alone plays them. You should definitely never buy any. It's also super accurate to gauge how a drum sounds while watching a YouTube video and listening to it through little laptop speakers. I'm sure they sounded horrible in person too.
Thank you so very much for bringing this to our attention.

What do you want the man to say? Remember the dropping-the-stick-ride? Same thing... Some histrionism (sp?) is expected. Drums sounded good. That´s what matters.

Meh,, It does seem like there's a bit of acting involved..But what else can you do.. Even if he is sincere about being back with Gretsch there are those that would bag on him because he left Ludwig after a relatively short time and was using whatever was there backline wise, and Heuer for awhile..
I personally think the Gretschs sound good when he plays in the video.. Better than the Ludwigs for sure.. I wonder why if you are going to the trouble of making a video and having some playing with audio to showcase the unboxing... Why not try and record the drums with some real mics.. Having a remote guy with mics on each drum and overheads would deliver a better impact sound wise. a little more time and a little more cost but the end result would be far better for showcasing the kit.

I cannot comment on the video...no interest. But I am very interested
in Gretsch drums and their history. Wasn't G-drums the go-to choice in
studio back in the glory days? I always argued Jeff endorsed Pearl in the
mid to late 80's but recorded with Gretsch. Maybe The Seventh One and
Kingdom of Desire were Pearl.
From the Gretsch website:
The iconic American drum maker Drum Workshop (DW Drums) acquires the
rights to develop, produce, market and distribute Gretsch Drums from Fender.
That's kinda...weird.

Some would argue this is a better place to gauge the sound:

But you're gonna prove 'em wrong, dammit:

Jeff used a Brady kit on Kingdom of Desire.
