Chester made a lot of « cheese » with Phil/Genesis, I think...
I can’t see him playing some straight ahead Jazz, but why not, like Charlie Watts, when you don’t have any money problems, I guess... :-)
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

Chester's kids attended a school I worked at...used to pick them up and
nobody knew who he was...he played at the high school function with
A players...did a fusion style gig...deer in the headlights from the student...
I wanted to yell out, "Kids...this is CHESTER THOMPSON...Zappa, Genesis"
but they would still be clueless unless I said, "Phil Collins...you do know who
that is right?" Chester was a very humble man...sweet!

Zoro a church preacher drummer now?

When you do covers you open yourself to all the other who can nail a cover...
and your style is exposed over playing what you do best...compare the two;

I got to wonder a bit about Chad Wackerman. Probably involved in less known sessions and home recording?

Seem to remember reading about his wife being ill somewhere.

Only things I have found out is:

He was at PASIC last year.
Seems he has a trio.
Got a signature brush with Innovative Percussion.
Shows ut at Drum Channel now and again.

The brush seems pretty cool btw.

According to his FB page Chad has been getting over some deep family stuff. I wish him the best!

It would be nice to hear Chester Thompson play some jazz again.
I really dig the Weather Report stuff he did.
There is nothing left to say.

Chad teaches (also via Skype) and still does plenty of session work. Chester was recently working with Jeff Berlin (in Nashville, where they both live).

I knew Chad was a flexible player, but this Dead tribute stuff is once again a testament to this dude's greatness.

Chester and Jeff berlin. Now that is something to die for in my book.

I often wonder about the big name drummers (who arent actual celebrities) and wonder what paid their bills for this month.

Anyone besides Tommy Lee, Travis Barker, Ringo Starr, Dave Grohl etc... Basically everyone on Drummerworld minus the huge name players who have celeb status or are definitely getting large royalty checks in the mail from being in a huge band (Stewart Copeland, Chad Smith)

In my mind I like to put musicians' fame into these tiers to keep perspective:

1) Has grandma heard of them? Ringo Starr
2) Have parents heard of them? Tommy Lee
3) Have normal friends heard of them? Dave Grohl
4) Have musician friends heard of them? Steve Gadd
5) Have drummer friends heard of them? Jonathan Moffett

Sort of how you hear the phrase "world renown" get tossed around in musician bios. "...a world renown trombonist".... yeah right....

I'd really like to see tax returns for all the career drummers out there. I'm sure we'd be surprised at how close we all are with a few outliers. Life as a musician is a roller coaster month-to-month. Keeping this in mind helps me keep my head up when I'm in a trough.... It almost always gets better. And when it's on the up and I'm playing in front of a few thousand people I need to appreciate the moment, because like 99.9999% of drummers out there, in a couple months I'll be playing small local gigs again with my old crew and that's cool too.
