Tama drums that could be tuned from one side

Does anyone remember what these were called? Tama made them maybe 15 years ago, I remember an ad with Kenny Aronoff in Modern Drummer. They were super expensive but you could tune the bottom head from the top. The idea was you wouldn't need to pick up the drum once it had already been set up with mics. I can't seem to find any info on them.

Maybe this can be a thread for drum technology that didn't catch on.

Omnitune I believe.

I recall seeing Simon at the Spud with a kit of those. They sounded great I just don't think they caught on.

I don't remember the Tama drums. But it sounds like they "borrowed" the idea from Billy Gladstone. Arnie Lang reverse engineered the Gladstone snare drums, built and sold them, and expanded the concept to include drum sets as well. Here is a link to Lang Percussion if you are interested. A warning: Arnie passed away on July 5th of this year, so I don't know what exactly will be going on with the company.

Yeah that three way tuning on the Lang snare drum is interesting. I guess I'm never in that big of a hurry to turn a drum over but it's always fun to see people trying new tech.
